ABOUT ME

I’m a strategic fundraising consultant and philanthropy advisor with more than 25 years’ experience across the arts, heritage, higher education, and community sectors in the UK. Throughout my career, I’ve helped secure transformational support for institutions ranging from national museums and universities to grassroots organisations and CICs that are creating real change and impact at the community level.

I’ve led or contributed to fundraising campaigns exceeding £350 million, supporting everything from major capital redevelopments to legacy programmes and grassroots revenue drives. My early career began with a formative role as part of the project team that built the Wales Millennium Centre. Since then, I’ve held senior fundraising positions at institutions including National Museums Scotland and the University of Edinburgh, where I was responsible for delivering capital and revenue campaigns.

Closer to home, I’ve been a long-time advocate for Welsh arts and heritage. As Development Director at Arts & Business Cymru, I worked alongside scores of small arts organisations across Wales, helping them navigate a shifting funding environment and build more sustainable futures. I also serve as Chairman of the Celynen Collieries Institute & Memorial Hall (aka. Newbridge Memo), ensuring this iconic community venue remains open and continues to serve future generations.

While I’ve worked on high-level philanthropic strategies and six- to seven-figure gifts, I also understand the daily pressures faced by small charities and community projects.

In 2021, I co-founded Have Fun, Get Fit CIC, a not-for-profit CIC based in Rhondda Cynon Taff that delivers creative fitness and wellbeing programmes for children and adults with neurodivergent conditions. As the father of a neurodivergent child, this work is both professional and deeply personal. Running a small CIC on limited funding, with fluctuating support, has given me a profound respect for the resilience of grassroots leaders. It’s also shown me first-hand how hard it is to survive, let alone grow, when traditional fundraising services are priced far out of reach.

That experience led me to launch The Funding Clinic, a kitchen consultancy model specifically designed to support small charities and CICs with affordable, expert advice. Through The Funding Clinic, I work one-to-one with changemakers doing vital frontline work, offering everything from bid writing and strategic planning to governance, impact design, and business model development.

My approach is values-led, empathetic, and action-oriented. Whether working with elite institutions or volunteer-led community projects, I remain focused on building capacity, boosting confidence, and helping others unlock their full funding potential.

Because impact shouldn't depend on budget, and every great idea deserves a fair chance to thrive!
